Get ready to say goodbye to muscle stiffness, inflammation, and a sluggish immune system, because Gua Sha is here to save the day! This ancient Chinese medical treatment involves using a smooth, flat tool (usually made of jade or bone) to apply pressure to the skin, massaging and stimulating specific points on the body.
Gua Sha has been around for over 2,000 years and has been used to treat a variety of ailments.
It’s especially great for relieving pain and stiffness, improving circulation, and boosting the immune system. And let’s not forget the psychological and emotional benefits – Gua Sha can reduce stress and anxiety and improve sleep quality.
Gua Sha has a long history dating back to ancient China, where it was used as a form of therapy for a variety of ailments. It is believed to have originated in the Han Dynasty (206 BC- 220 AD). The practice has also been used in other parts of Asia, such as Japan and Vietnam, where it is known by different names.
I discovered this skin-changing tool a few years back and it’s honestly one of those rare times when you can actually see the transformation happening before your eyes.
Whether you’re traveling or just hanging out at home – this is one tool you’ll want to add to your beauty routine immediately – trust me.
So how does this magical tool work?
- Make sure you put a serum or face oil on your clean face before you begin. Gua sha actually helps work the serum/oil into your face so is perfect to add to your skincare routine.
- Be gentle. You don’t want to be pulling on your skin and causing more harm. It’s a light yet somewhat firm touch and the tool should be gliding across your face, not pulling on it.
- Following the image below, go in the direction of the arrows. I typically do each section 3-5 times. 5 for the puffier days or when I’m traveling and retaining water.
- Make sure to drain all the lymph at the end down into the base of your neck on each shoulder. You’ll be moving a lot of lymph around and you just want to get it drained so it isn’t just coming back into your face. I do this as the last step by just starting at the top of my hairline all the way down the perimeter of each side of my face and drawing that lymp down to the corresponding shoulder at the base of my neck
- Follow up with your favorite moisturize and continue with the rest of your skincare or makeup routine.
In conclusion, Gua Sha is the ultimate game-changer when it comes to improving your health and well-being. This ancient Chinese treatment is the real deal, providing a host of benefits like reduced muscle tension, improved circulation, and a boosted immune system. And let’s not forget the psychological and emotional benefits – Gua Sha can help you de-stress and get some seriously restful sleep.
So if you’re ready to ditch muscle stiffness, inflammation, and a sluggish immune system, give Gua Sha a try! Trust us, your body (and mind) will thank you.
